August passed away on 24 May 1902 in LaPraire, Illinois. There are two LaPraire's in Illinois, but mostly likely passed away in Adams County.

Friday morning, May 30, 1902
August Withaus, who was raised in the Truxton neighborhood, was killed last Saturday evening about 6:30 o'clock at LaPrairie, Ill., by being run over by a train. He is said to have been intoxicated and laid down on the track and went to sleep. His remains were brought here Tuesday morning and taken to Truxton for interment. He leaves three orphan children to mourn his death.
