Sister Mary Bartholomew, 75, of the St. Francis order, who had spent the past
40 years of her sisterhood at the St. Joseph hospital and home for the aged in
West Point, Neb., died there Friday afternoon following an illness of four
weeks.
The body will be brought to the Holy Family convent at Silver Lake where burial
will take place. Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending the arrival of the
body and will be announced later.
Born Theresa Lemberger in the town of Cato in 1873, Sister Bartholomew was a
daughter of the late Wolfgang and Theresa Lemberger. She entered the Holy Family
convent at Silver Lake in 1896 and in 1908 went to the St. Francis order’s
hospital and home in Nebraska. She had remained there ever since.
Sister Mary Bartholomew would have celebrated her golden jubilee in the sisterhood
in July of this year.
Surviving are three sisters, two of them also nuns, Sister Mary Elizabeth of the
St. John Catholic School at Seymour, Sister Mary Christina of the Holy Family
Convent at Silver Lake, and Mrs. Joseph Buchner, Sr., of this city, and two brothers,
Anton and Joseph Lemberger, both of Whitelaw.

Funeral services for Sister Mary Bartholomew, 75, of the St. Francis order, who
died Friday at West Point, Nebr., will be held at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the Silver
Lake convent, with burial in the convent cemetery. The body will arrive here Tuesday
afternoon and will be moved to the convent to lie in state until the hour of services.
Sister Bartholomew, the former Theresa Lemberger, is survived by three sisters and
two brothers.
