She was a Barstow High School Riffian, graduating in 1938. She worked as a waitress and self-employed with McGinnis Backhoe for 35 years. She also volunteered as a voting poll worker. She married George A McGinnis on October 2, 1938.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ritson and Alice Thursby; brothers, Les and Roy Thursby; her older sister, Lucille; and her husband, George A McGinnis.
She is survived by her sons, Robert "Bobby" McGinnis of Barstow, Leslie A. McGinnis of Ridgecrest, and Roy D. McGinnis of Barstow; and daughter, Lorena McKinley of Gray, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Our mother loved the desert and the city of Barstow. She was a great lover of life and the outdoors. Her grandfather came to the High Desert in 1883 and he was the first postmaster in Victorville and worked in the Calico mines.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at the First Congregational Church, Barstow.
