Sister Wilma Kurtenbach, 76, of Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, died Tuesday
afternoon, Sept. 21, at the convent.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Convent Chapel,
Manitowoc. The Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Gerald
Walker O.F.M. Cap. and burial will be in Holy Family Convent Cemetery,
Manitowoc.
Sister Kurtenbach, nee Pauline Kurtenbach, was born March 20, 1906, at Lindsay,
Neb., daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Happ Kurtenbach. She entered
the order Dec. 28, 1923, and professed her vows in 1926. She obtained her music
credits from Holy Family College, St. Louis, Mo., and Chicago Conservatory College
where she received a Bachelor of Music with a major in piano. Sister Kurtenbach
taught music at Holy Family Conservatory at Rhinelander, Bloomington, St. Mary of
Kaukauna, Holy Innocents of Manitowoc, and St. Bernard of Green Bay, Wis. She also
taught at Ironwood, Manistique and Menominee, Mich.; Santa Barbara, Calif.; and
Wellsburg, Ohio. During the past several years, she was a homemaker at Clintonville
and St. Joseph and Corpus Christi of Sturgeon Bay.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity; two brothers, Ted
Kurtenbach of Platte Center, Neb., and William Kurtenbach of Lindsay, Neb.; five
sisters, Sister Donna Kurtenbach of Holy Family Convent, Mrs. Elizabeth Beierman
of David City, Neb., Mrs. Fred Geilenkirchen of Columbus, Neb., Mrs. Tony Grundmeyer
of Manchester, Iowa, and Mrs. Joe Beckman of Ontario, Calif., and a brother-in-law,
Melvin Beierman of Pierz, Minn.
Friends may call at Holy Family Convent Chapel from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday
where a memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is
in charge of arrangements.
