Ralph Norman Phillips was the son of Thomas and Meadie Plowman Phillips. He was born February 23, 1911. He passed away December 16, 1979 at Veteran's Hospital in Poplar Bluff MO at the age of 68 years, 10 months, 7 days. He was united in marriage to Dora Ann Harrod, daughter of William Ellsworth Harrod and Katherine J. (Strosnider) Harrod, on June 24, 1945 at Winona MO. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Surviving are his wife, of the home, four cousins, other relatives and many friends. Ralph was a veteran of the U. S. Armed Forces, having served his country for two years during WW II. He was a member of the Church of Christ. During the years when his health began to fail he took up wood carving. He obtained wood from old orange crates at the local grocery, cut them into smaller pieces, and then carved pictures of flowers, wildlife and other subjects, into them. These unique and colorful pieces were then given to his friends and family. Ralph was also an amateur photographer and painter. Funeral services for Ralph N. Phillips were held on December 19, 1979 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona with Rev. Golden Hampton officiating. Interment was in Hickory Grove Cemetery near Alton under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home of Winona.
