HELEN WHITAKER--Helen Whitaker, 91-year-old Woodward resident, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, in Woodward Regional Hospital. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Dunday, Jan. 27, in the Mooreland First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Hamilton offciating.
Curial was made in Mooreland Cemetery under direction of Billings Funeral Home.
Helen Elizabeth (Lierman) Whitaker was born June 30, 1910, in, Richmond, Missouri, the daughter of Louis and Laura Virginia (Johns) Lierman. The family lived in Richmond until Helen was 10 when they moved to the Quinlan, Oklahoma area, where they lived on the family farm.
she attended Mayfied school and attended high school in Quinlan. On march 8, 1928, Ahe was married to Morton Carl Whitaker in Woodward, Oklahoma. They made their home six miles east of Bouse Junction on a farm and ranch.
To this union three children were born, Dorothy, Mary Lou and Jim. Helen was a wife and helpmate of her loving husband for 65 years. In the spring of 1973 they made their home in Mooreland, Oklahoma. Morton preceded her in death on June 22,1993. and she moved to Woodward, Oklahoma in September, 1999, and had resided there since that time.
Helen was a member of the Mooreland First Baptist Church.
Survivers include one daughter, Mary Lou Whitaker of Pacific Palisades, California; one son, Jim Whitaker of Enid, Oklahoma; one grandson, Larry Conner of Longview, Washington; two great grandchildren, Jess and Jennifer Conner, one sister, Laura Rommel of Woodward, Oklahoma; one brother, Lawrence Lierman of Woodward, Oklahoma; three sisters-in-law, Iva June Lierman of Woodward, Oklahoma; Irene Whitaker of Longview, Washington, and Gladys Whitaker of Mooreland, Oklahoma; one brother-in-law, Roy Whitaker and his wife, Velma, of Fairview, Oklahoma, and her beloved cat, Tiger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one daughter, Dorothy Conner in 1982; two sisters, Marvel and Mary, and three brothers, Bill, Walter and Ralpth.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church with funeral home acting as custodian.
