San Angelo

Betty Ray-Deiterman Tanner passed peacefully from her earthly home on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the age of 76 to view her favorite wildflowers from the best seat in the house. Betty was born February 20, 1940 to Ernie and Cecilia Deiterman in San Angelo, Texas. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1958 and married Jerry Tanner on April 19, 1958.

Betty, better known as MeMe, loved to garden and could make anything grow. She was an artist, well known for her crafts and painting pumpkins every year for her grandkids. She was always there for anything her family needed, from driving miles to babysit, getting a costume together or digging in her famous junk room for the random things we needed as well as attending as many events as possible with everything you ever needed to be pulled from her bottomless purse. She was handy with a switch while driving her grandkids that knew she could reach them in the back seat at any given moment. She was a beautiful wife, mom and Meme and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry; daughter, Tracey Millner (Dennis); sons David, Jason (Shannon) and Eric (Valarie); grandchildren, Shelby (Chadd) Brown, Tanner (Tayler) Millner, Josh (Kysha) Tanner, Jarrod (Betsy) Tanner, Kassidy (Ashton) Braddock, Tyler Tanner, Grayson Tanner and Bowen Tanner; great-grandchildren Brody Brown, River Braddcock, Sloane, Laetyn, Beckett, Asa and Cameron Tanner; sister Joann Hillger of Garden City, Texas, Jerry Sportsman of Cibolo, Texas, and many special extended family members.

Those who preceded her in death are her parents; her in-laws Buster and Ellie Tanner; brother-in-laws Dale Hillger, Marks Marcum and Glenn Fore; and niece Dana Cook.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Lady Bird Wildflower center in Austin, Texas, Alzheimer's Association , Hospice of San Angelo (HOSA) or a favorite charity .

Family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2016. Graveside service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 21 in Garden City, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home of San Angelo. Memorial messages and condolences maybe left for the family at johnsons-funeralhome.com.
