Sister Mary Simon Jamiel, 76, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. The former Almosse Jamiel was born May 14, 1925 in Cambridge, daughter of Amiel and Emelie (Gimaiel) Jamiel. She entered the convent in 1944 and professed her vows in 1946. Sister Mary Simon earned a bachelor of arts degree from Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. She served as a teacher at St. Mary, Kaukauna, Wis.; St. Joseph, Waukesha, Wis.; San Xavier, Tucson, Ariz.; St. Peter Mission, Bapchula; St. Anthony, Topawa, Wis.; Immaculate Conception, Yuma, Ariz.; San Jose Mission, Pisinemo; St. John, Komathke, Ariz.; St. Nicholas, Zanesville; Cathedral, Honolulu, Hawaii; St. Theresa, Kekaha, Hawaii and San Roque, Santa Barbara, Calif. After retiring from the teaching profession she performed various tasks at St. Mary, Rhinelander and Silver Lake College, Manitowoc, Wis. Since 1997, she has been residing in St. Rita Health Center at the motherhouse.
She was a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity. Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; four sisters, Sister Simona Jamiel of Manitowoc, Wis., Rose Holdmann, Griffith, Ind.; Emelie Norris of Palmo Bay, Florida and Esther Ankrom of Kingsville Township; three brothers, James Jamiel of Melbourne, Florida, Philip Jamiel of Strongsville and Edward Jamiel of Quaker City.
She was preceded in death by her parents. A service was held Jan. 14 at Holy Family Convent Chapel. The Rev. Samuel D. Jadin officiated the service. Burial was in the Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc, Wis. The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, Wis., had charge of the arrangements.
