Charles "Buster" Wright passed away at Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool, MO, just 7 weeks shy of his 100th birthday. Born to Emma (Stout) and John Wright at the head of Little Shawnee Creek, Shannon County, MO, Charles was a 12-pound baby deemed a "buster", and the name stuck. Buster grew up in a large family, went to Reed School and to hear him tell it, mostly stayed out of trouble. In the 1930's he earned 30 cents per hour cutting the right of way for highways 19 and 60 manually with a hand scythe.

On November 5, 1932, he married Georgia Dillard at Salem, MO, and they eventually purchased a farm on Shawnee next door to Georgia's parents. They raised 3 children: Doris, Charlotte Sue, and Gilford. As electricity became available in 1949, Buster started working as an electrician's apprentice for his brother-in-law Wes Bockman of Winona, wiring many homes in the surrounding area. Beginning in the 1950s, he operated a contract school bus for the Winona school district. Multiple generations of families came to know Buster through his 20 years driving that yellow bus. In between pick-ups and drop-offs, Buster farmed 163 acres, raising beef cattle, chickens, hay, and vegetables and fruit too numerous to mention.

Active in the community, Buster came from the olden days of neighbor helping neighbor. Whether making improvements at Bethany Chapel Church, helping with hay, or just being there for a neighbor in need. Buster was a good story teller. He would tell it with a flavor all his own. He lived nearly all of his long life within just a few miles of where he was born. It seemed he knew everyone, and everyone knew him. In his later years, Buster could tell stories from his youth without leaving out a single detail or punch line.

Buster is survived by his children Doris Kirkpatrick of Arnold, MO, Gilford Wright and wife Mary of Mountain Grove, MO, and Charlotte Asher of Sutter Creek, CA; grandchildren Sheilah Asher, Benita Asher and husband Bill Condrashoff, Larissa Wood, all of Jackson CA, Donna Howard and husband Mark of Fenton MO, Diana Bray and husband Ron of Fenton, MO, Tiffany Taylor and husband James of Cabool, MO, John Wright of Atlanta, GA; great-grandchildren Jessica Bray O'Mara and husband Casey, Alisha Bray, Lauren and Gabrielle Taylor; one great- great-grandchild, Liam O'Mara. Buster was preceded in death by his parents, John R Wright and Emma Stout Wright, his wife of nearly 70 years, Georgia (July 2002), and 3 brothers and 4 sisters: Burl Wright, Hubert Wright, Dwain Wright, Lee Wright Randolph, Beulah Wright Bockman, Ruth Wright Williams, Effie P Wright Seaman.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona, MO with Rev. Phillip Nava officiating. Interment was in Bethany Chapel Cemetery in Eminence, MO under the direction of Duncan Funeral Homes of Winona, MO.
