Mary Barela went home to be with the Lord on July 21, 2007. She passed quietly at home with her family at her side. Mary was born in Belen, N.M., on April 27, 1944, to Manuel and Sofia Chavira. Mary is preceded in death by her father and mother; and brothers, Guadalupe, Delfin, Dennis, Alonso and Louis Chavira. Mary is survived by her husband, Wilfred "Willie" of 44 years; daughter, Sophia Barela; sons, Dominic and his wife, Rosalie; Adonis and his wife, Stacey, and Micheal Gosnay; grandchildren, Andrew, DJ, Augie, Sara, Trinity, Adonis Jr., all of Barstow; brother, Cito and his wife Jenny of Belen, N.M.; sisters, Lora Padilla, Rose Tafoya, and Carmen Wheatley; and great-grandchild, Andrew of Barstow. Mary had many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Charmain Compton of Barstow, Gene Zamora and his wife Shirley of Cheyenne, Wyo., Phillip Zamora and his wife, Terri of Buena Park, Jake Zamora and wife Maryanne of Albuquerque, N.M., AB Zamora of Colorado Springs, Colo., Peggy Manning of Michigan, Alice Zamora of Colorado Springs, Colo., Edwina Baca and her husband Tanney of Barstow, and Lupe Zamora of Newberry Springs. She also leaves behind many nephews and nieces dear to her. Mary leaves close friends from Texas, Ronnie and Mafalda Lawson and their children, Mirko, Ayan, Anthony, and Alessia. Mary was a homemaker, and she loved being around her family, her children, and grandchildren. This is what truly brought her joy and happiness. Mary is gone but not forgotten. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, on Friday, July 27, 2007 with Rosary at 9 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memorial Park and a reception will follow at Noonan Hall after burial.
