BOUNTIFUL - Our dear dad, 84, passed on to reunite with his beloved wife, Mary, Sat., February 3, 2007, at his home in Bountiful, Utah, surrounded by his daughters and son-in-law. He was born May 4, 1922 in Logan, Utah to Irvin Samuel Miller and Jasmine Cannon Miller.
He excelled at math, science, art, tennis, and loved fishing, family history and temple work. He graduated from Utah State in Logan, UT, with a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry, in 1946 and married his college sweetheart, Mary A. West in the Logan LDS Temple on June 2, 1947. John's graduate study was in anatomy and medical art at the University of Utah, later taking an internship in Laboratory Medicine at St. Joseph's Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He worked as a Laboratory Scientist at Mt. Wilson State Hospital in Baltimore Co, MD, until 1965, when they moved to Bountiful, UT. He then worked at the U. of U. Medical Center as a Clinical Chemist until he retired in 1986.
Jack served as a stake missionary in Baltimore, MD, and again in Bountiful, UT, in addition to other callings. After retiring, he and his wife served two more missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Family History Library and later in the Priesthood Dept. of the Church Office Bldg. in Salt Lake City. John served as a counselor in the Meadows Branch presidency in Bountiful, UT.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his younger brother: Irvin Samuel "Sam" Miller, Jr.; his step-brother: Patrick "Harrison" Miller; and his beloved wife, helpmate and companion of 59 years, Mary Adell West Miller. His is survived by his two daughters: Nancy (Michael) Thornburg of Sierra Vista, AZ; and Gretchen (Cornel) Thomas of Bountiful, UT; three Navajo foster daughters: Elsie (Honnald) Begay, Rose Saltclah, and Sadie (Frank) Tsosie; five grandchildren: Merri (Richard) Regimballe, Tiffany (Roger) Solomon, Natalie Thornburg, Katie (Charlie) Koutz, and Elder Cornel W. Thomas, Jr. (serving in the New York Rochester mission); and two great-grandchildren: Michael R. Solomon and R. "Ryan" Regimaballe.
John will be remembered for his unpretentious manner, his courage in overcoming trials, his pleasant sense of humor, and his quiet faithfulness. Graveside services will be held at the Logan City Cemetery, Wed., February 7, 2007 at 3:00 p.m.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial gathering/viewing at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. prior to graveside services in Logan. Our thanks to Vista Care Hospice.
