Doris I. Brownell, 64, 810 Emerson Ave., died Tuesday morning in her home following a lingering illness.
She was born Oct. 20, 1911, in Durand, Ill., the daughter of George and Annie Bates Higgins. The family moved to a farm on Colley Road in 1915, here they resided for many years. She married James F. Brownell, July 1, 1935, in Rockford.
She was a graduate of Whitewater Normal, and taught at Merrill, Wright and Robinson schools in Beloit. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Martha) Everill of Hamilton, Ohio, and Mrs. Gus (Susan) Hangiandreou of Merrill; a sister, Mrs. Norma Henry of Sidney, Ohio; and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents.
Memorial services will be 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Chilson-Schoenfeld Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krause officiating. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8:30 Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church.
