Olive E. Fondow

Mrs. Olive Elsie Fondow, age 83, of Berlin, formerly of Oshkosh, died peacefully early Thursday morning, September 11, 2008 at the Omro Care Center. She was born November 27, 1924 in Marathon City, Wisconsin, the daughter of August and Lydia Ristow Oelke-Soukup. She married Robert E. Fondow June 9, 1951 at St. Mark's Lutheran Chapel in Wausau. Robert preceded Olive in death September 27, 1994.

She was a 1942 Graduate of Wausau High School. Prior to her marriage, Olive had done secretarial work at the Court House in Wausau. Following their marriage, Olive and Bob lived in Wausau. They moved to Oshkosh in 1957. Olive and her husband operated a Jewel Tea distributorship and Jewel Tea General Store in Oshkosh for 30 years. Olive continued to reside in Oshkosh following Bob's death until moving to Berlin in 2004 to be closer to her kids.

Olive enjoyed attending her grandkids athletic functions. She loved working with and helping her family. She was always there to help them out.

While living in Oshkosh, she was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School there for 30 years. She was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the Berans Couples Club in Oshkosh. After moving to Berlin, she became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Berlin. Olive enjoyed helping at the Church School. She was a volunteer at the Second Time Around Shop in Berlin. An avid Green Bay Packers fan, Olive was a season ticket holder. She was also a Chicago Cub's and Appleton Foxes fan.

Survivors include her twin daughters, Jane (Gary) Wegner and Joan (Neil-Kevin) Parsons, both of Berlin; 3 grandchildren, Melissa (Jake) Tuinstra of Neshkoro, Greg Wegner (Special Friend Becky Bradley) of Berlin, and Matthew Parsons of Berlin; a great-granddaughter, Jenna Tuinstra, and 3 step-great-grandsons, James Schumann, Tory and Jacob, Jr. Tuinstra. Olive is also survived by a step- brother, Roderick Soukup of San Ramon, California; other relatives, and dear friends, and her canine companion, Bailee.

Olive was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Matt Soukup; her brothers and sisters, Wilbur, Hans, Ray, Eleanor, Dorothy, and Linda; 2 sisters- in-law, and a brother-in-law.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Olive E. Fondow will be held Saturday, September 20th at 1 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Berlin. The Rev. Bryan G. Lundquist, Pastor will officiate. Entombment will be in the Sanctuary of Peace at Lake View Memorial Park in Oshkosh. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday only prior to the Services at St. John's Lutheran Church, Berlin. A Memorial has been established.
