ELIAS LOPEZ, JR.
Sergeant Elias "BJ" Lopez, Jr., age 23, of Chicago, an honorable member of the United States Army, tragically passed away Sunday, February 21, 2010.
Our Lord called upon him for his strength and courage and he shall be deeply missed.
Treasured son to proud parents: Elias Lopez, Sr. and Gracie (nee Alvarado) Lopez, Sr.; beloved brother to Dena (Guillermo) Contreras, Corrina (Mike) Esteban, Jimmy (Stephanie) Contreras, Savannah Lopez, Marcos (Jennifer) Lopez, and Adam Lopez; dearest grandson to Marcos and Rachel Alvarado and Ignacio and Clelia Lopez; and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Sgt. Elias Lopez, Jr. was in the United States Army's 1st Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood, TX. His awards and decorations included the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Korean Serves Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Army Service Ribbon.
Funeral Service Saturday, March 6, 2010 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 8235 S. South Shore Dr., Chicago at 10:00 AM for Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. John S. Breslin, officiating. Interment, Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Owens-Ruzich Funeral Home, 816-119th St. (Corner of Rt. 41 and Calumet Ave. at 119th St) Whiting.
