John was was born 22 August 1731 in New London, Conecticut and baptised the same day, son of Ebenezer and Mary Harris Way.

He married Ann Daniels, born 18 August 1742, at New London in 1758. Ann was the daughter of Jasper and Grace Edgecomb Daniels. She died 5 April 1830 at age 90.

Their children, all born Connecticut, were Nataniel 1760, Phebe and Thomas 1762, John 1765, Benjamin 1767, Jasper 1772, James 1774 and Stephen 1775.

John Way of New London served 14 days in Captain Jonathan Latimer's Company of Colonel Gurdon Saltonstall's Regiment for the relief of Fort William Henry in 1757. He served in the 2nd Company 1st Regiment in 1761 and again in 1762 from 11 December 1762 to 19 March 1763.

John moved to Marlow, Cheshire County, New Hampshire before 1790 and is listed in the 1790 Census of Marlow. He purchased land in Marlow from Josiah Gsutin by a deed of 24 February 1791.

In 1800, he is of Lempster, New Hampshire.

His widow, Ann Way married second, Oliver Booth Sr. in April 1802 at Lempster.
