BOOTH, PAUL MOORE, SR. [James Walker Booth, James Thomas Booth, John James Booth, James
Booth, Thomas Booth], son of James Walker Booth and Rosa Belle Dorsey. Paul was born July 31, 1911
and walked to elementary school. He won a scholarship to Clemson and after graduation Paul taught
agriculture at Wampee HS. He later taught in the HS (and coached basketball) in Lamar where he met
his wife Grace Myers Smith. They were married on July 14, 1938. Paul served in the Army in WW II
and in Korea, retiring as Captain. With some of his wife's relatives he bought farm land in Darlington
County. For many years Paul served as president of the Federal Land Bank. Grace was born May 1,
1916, the daughter of Henrietta Myers and James Tillman Smith. After graduating from Hartsville HS,
she won a scholarship in Latin to Winthrop. For many years Grace taught commerce in the Darlington
County schools. Paul liked to travel and took his family all over the US, Mexico, and Canada (his wife
did not care for these adventures). Paul died Sept. 23, 1996 and Grace died Oct. 27, 1996. They are
buried in Grove Hill Cemetery, S. Warley Street, Darlington.
