Death of William Nelson, Sr.

William Nelson, Sr., of this village, died last evening at about six o’clock at the home of his son, William, Jr., after a short illness. Mr. Nelson was quite an old man and would have been 85 years of age the third of next August, but had had good health and had been able always to do light work. Last Saturday afternoon he did not feel well but Monday was up bright and early at work in the garden. It was his last work, for that afternoon a physician was called and he did not again leave his bed. The deceased was born in New York state and 33 years ago homesteaded the “Press Burgan” farm at Union Lake in Hudson. After selling that he lived just south of the village but for eleven years past had made his home with his son. He was a familiar figure on our streets, known to nearly everyone, was fond of reading, had a great fund of information and was always ready for a good natured argument. He had been a widower for some years and left the one son and seven daughters: Mrs. M. E. Swap of Hudson, Mrs. B. F. Carr of Sauk Centre, Mrs. Geo. Shippey of Hawley, Mrs. Griffey of Jannsville, Wis., Mrs. Schoonover of Auroraville, Wis., Mrs. Sperry of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Russell of Gallop, Mt. The funeral will be Friday morning at 10 o’clock from the Congregational church.
