Sarah Elizabeth Anderson was born May 10, 1865, near Soldier, Kansas, the daughter of Jane and Robert Anderson and passed away at her home in Holton on Tuesday, June 20, 1939, after an illness of about six weeks.
On July 20, 1882; she was united in marriage to Reuben B. Francis and for several years they lived on a farm near Soldier. Fifty years ago they came to Holton to make their home and have resided here continuously since. Eight children were born to this union, two of whom preceded in their mother in death, Goldie May, who died at the age of 8 years in 1895, and Percy L. who passed away in May 1938 at the age of 53 years.
Mrs. Francis had been a member of the Methodist Church throughout her lifetime. She was a member of Columbian chapter O. E. S. and had been a member of the Royal Neighbor Lodge. Her entire life was centered around her home and family, and enjoying her many friendships which lasted thru the years. On July 20, 1932, a happy occasion in her life was the celebration of their golden wedding anniversary at which time the children were all at home.
Surviving are her husband; three sons, Ross B of Holton, Paul C. of Waltham, Mass., Harry L. of Tulsa, Okla.; three daughters, Laura G. Cannon of Holton, Mrs. B. F. Dunn of Rochester, Minn., Mrs. Chas. B Marsh of Valley Falls; sic grandchildren, Elizabeth Cannon and Richard B. Francis of Holton; P. L. Francis of Olathe, Harry Lyle Francis of Tulsa, Alice and David Dunn were H of Rochester; one sister, Mrs. A. L. Fryberger of Charlo, Mont. and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon, by Rev. Raymond J. Gilbreath, pastor of the Methodist Church. Pall bearers were Harold H. Fairchild, James S. Naylor, Ira Berridge, M. C. Fernopf, Clarence Klusmire, Harry Bair. Interment was in the Holton Cemetery.
