A native of Bedford County, he was the son of Daniel and Rena Britton of Shelbyville. He retired from J. R. Warren Construction after 32 years, and 30 years at Cecil Melton Construction.
He coached Babe Ruth baseball for several years and was on the bowling league. He was post master at Charity Lodge #82 and a member of the consistory Lodge #185. He was a faithful member of Scott United Methodist Church and served on the Trustee Board.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lou Ella Battle of Shelbyville. He is survived by his wife, Roberta Britton; two daughters, Elma Banks and Jackie Wyatt, of Delaware, OH; step daughter, Doris Carpenter of Franklin, TN and other relatives.
