Mrs. Katherine Elizabeth Greene, widow of the late Rev. J.W. Greene, died at the home of her son, Dr. H.E. Greene, east Main street, at six-thirty Friday evening, after an illness of eleven weeks duration. A general breakdown accompanying the infirmities of age caused her demise. Funeral services will be held from the home of Dr. Greene at three Sunday afternoon with burial in Oak Hill cemetery. Rev. Fred Whitlo Hixson, pastor of the First M.E. church, will have charge of the services. The male quartet of the Methodist church will sing.
Mrs. Green was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Organ. She was born at Campbell's Court House, Virginia, and came to this state at an early age with her parents. They settled at Laporte, Indiana, where she was married to Rev. J.W. Greene. Rev. and Mrs. Greene came to this city in 1877 and with the exception of three years which she spent at Terre Haute the deceased has lived in Crawfordsville. Four sons, Robert J. and Phillip F., of Lincoln, Neb., Jesse A., of Fort Wayne and Dr. Greene, at whose home she died, survive, as does one sister, Mrs. John E. Fore, of Huddleston, Va.
Mrs. Greene was one of the best known women of the city, having taken part in social and religious activities for years. At the last election of officers of the Athenian club she was chosen vice president for the ensuing year. She was known to all as a good, kind woman and she had a great many friends in the county. Her husband, the late, Rev. J.W. Greene, was also well known and was one of the most widely liked pastors in this part of the country.
