Patrick Joseph O'Donohue was born March 10, 1875 to Thomas O'Donahue snd Anna Gilbridge O'Donahue in Hazelton, Pennsylvania. His parents Thomas O'Donahue and Anna Gilbridge O'Donahue were from County Longford Ireland. They lived in Beaver Meadows, Carbon Co., Pennsylvania. The family moved to Nebraska when it was opened for settlement, in 1881 the homestead law was changed, this resulted in an influx of new homesteaders, many from Ireland. The O'Donahue's lived near O'Neill, NE. They were farmers. Patrick Joseph was a school teacher at O'Neill. He graduated from UNL Law School in 1903. It was at this time that Patrick Joseph O'Donohue dropped the O from his name and he became Patrick Joseph Donohue. The University made a mistake on his degree and rather than printing Patrick Joseph O'Donahue they printed Donohue. He decided to change his name to Donohue, as did other members of his family. He practiced law in Spencer, NE. Patrick Joseph began his law practice in Spencer, Nebraska. In 1904 he moved to Bonesteel, SD. Patrick Joseph Donohue married Anna M. Donahue (slightly different spelling, no relation) Oct 30, 1907 from Creighton, Knox Co., NE. Anna M. was born Feb 23, 1882, she was the daughter of Thomas William Donahue. Thomas William Donahue was the Uncle of Grandpa Michael Joseph Darcy. Patrick Joseph Donohue's wife Anna M. (Donahue) Donohue was Michael Joseph Darcy 1st Cousin.
Patrick Joseph Donohue was an attorney in Bonesteel, until his death in 1940. Anna M. Donohue died Aug 12, 1973, in Sioux City, Iowa.
When Patrick Joseph moved to Bonesteel it was was a large town, population about 10,000 people. Patrick J. Donohue practiced law in Bonesteel until his death in 1940.
Patrick J. Donohue and Anna M. Donahue (slightly different spelling, no relation) were married 30 Oct 1907 in Creighton, NE.
In 1908 Patrick J was elected States Attorney in South Dakota and served for four years. In 1912 he was appointed City Attorney for Bonesteel, and served until 1920.
Patrick J helped (with a number of others) establish St. Mary's Catholic Elementary School in Bonesteel.
Patrick Joseph Donohue died at his home in Bonesteel on Aug 4, 1940. He was originally buried at Saint Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Bonesteel, Gregory Co., South Dakota.
He was originally buried at St. Mary Cemetery in Bonesteel, Later his remains were move to Omaha, Nebraska.
He was reburied at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska on April 18, 1968.
Patrick Joseph Donohue and his wife Anna M (Donahue)Donohue are both buried in the Donahue plot in Holy Sepulcure Cemetery in Omaha.
