Benjamin Ervin Bates, 29, of Salado, Arkansas died Wednesday, September 7, 2011.

Born in Charleston, South Carolina on June 27, 1982, he was the son of William Bates of Salado and René Haley of Hutchinson, Kansas. He enjoyed taking things apart and putting them together and building things. He liked to go camping, canoeing, and boating. He enjoyed drawing and cars. He was a press operator and attended Ring's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his parents; a daughter, Charlotte Bates of Sterling, Colorado; a brother, Michael Bates of Hutchinson, KS; sisters: Stefanie Bates of Honea Path, SC and Denise Bates of Evening Shade, AR; maternal grandparents, Rodney and Georgia Sayers of Aransas Pass, TX; nephews: Chase and Colt Taylor of Evening Shade; and nieces: Alexis Bates of Honea Path and Dixie Taylor of Evening Shade.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ervin and Barbara Bates.

The funeral will be at 12:00 noon Saturday at Roller-Crouch-McGee Chapel in Cave City with Terry Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Parsley Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch-McGee Funeral Home of Cave City.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

He was married in Sterling, CO on Nov. 13th, 2004 to Christina Wettstein (Bates). They were later divorced in 2007. In this marriage was three step kids and one of his own. Jeremiah, Kenisha, and Courtney Shepard and Charlotte Bates. He loved his daughter and step kids with all his heart. His daughter was the biggest part of his life. She is his pride and joy. He would do anything for her no matter what he had to do. He was a great husband and a very loving father.
