Lola Obenchain Meyer was born in 1897 to Joseph Grant Obenchain and wife, Laura Jane Converse, in Iowa. Lola later moved to Mercer County, Pennsylvania with her parents and siblings shortly after 1900.

Lola was a very intelligent woman and loved going to school. She attended several colleges and universities in Pennsylvania -- Temple University, Thiel College, Cornell University, Slippery Rock and University of Pennsylvania. She studied physical education and nutrition as well as music and the arts. She was a dreamer with aspirations of becoming an author and opera singer, but these dreams never materialized.

At the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia she met her future husband, Herman William Meyer. They married on November 4, 1927 at Christ Church in Philadelphia and moved into a new home in Vineland New Jersey, where they were living when they had their two sons, Russell Obenchain Meyer in 1928 and Louis Converse Meyer in 1931. Louis died of pneumonia when he was less than a year old in Vineland, New Jersey, the family home.

About 1932 Lola left her husband and went to work as a schoolteacher in Greenville, Pennsylvania to support herself and Russell. When he was a young teenager, she decided he should attend Texas A&M University and sold all furniture and goods she could not fit into her Model T and left for Texas, using gas ration coupons. Her coupons ran out when they reached Fort Worth, Texas and she could not go the rest of the distance to College Station, Texas, so she found housing, settled in Fort Worth with her son and found a schoolteaching job to support them until she felt Russell was old enough to provide the living.

Lola lived out her life in Fort Worth, Texas and died there in 1980. She was cremated and her ashes were interred near the graves of her parents and sister in Albion Cemetery in Pennsylvania.
