From a Gallatin, Tennessee newspaper:
In Memoriam. Mrs. Martha P. Halbert was born in Sumner county, Tenn., March 25, 1836, and died February 12, 1921. She professed faith in Christ early in life and united with the M. E. church.
She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Baird [sic]. On August 2, 1859 she was married to Joseph E. Halbert. This happy union was blessed with three children, all of whom are left to mourn her loss. Her husband died November 15, 1902.
In 1870 Mr. and Mrs. Halbert moved to Benton county, Mo., and in 1889 came to Arkansas. Mrs. Halbert was a faithful member of the Mountain Home Methodist church for a number of years.
Her age was 84 years and 10 months and she was the last of a family of five sisters noted for the ripe old age to which they lived. Ten years ago, two of her sisters, Miss Vandelia Baird, aged 83, and Mrs. Jennie Bowman, aged 78, died at their home near Gallatin, Tenn., within a week of each other. On April 9, 1916, another, Mrs. Amanda Melton, died at her home in Florida at the age of 90 years, and on April 30 of the same year, Mrs. A. T. Holt died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. L. Scott, at Gallatin, Tenn., at the age of 84 years and 8 months.
Mrs. Halbert was a faithful Christian. When her pastor visited her she Always presented him with the Bible and requested prayer before he left. Truly she was one of Godís saints.
