Herliska was born October 10, 1934 in Chicago, Il to Mary (DuFore) and Charles Herliska. He joined the U.S. Air Force in April 1954, serving until April 1965. In March 1975, he enlisted in the Air National Guard Reserve at Buckley. He continued to serve until his retirement in 1990. During this time, he received many awards, including serveral Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal.
Herliska married Bessie Louise Embrey in April 1956 in Tampa, Fla. They had 2 sons. Though they separated June 1977, they remained friends. He married again in April 1994. Herliska moved to Castle Rock more than 35 years ago, where he operated his own architectural design and drafting business as well as serving his country with the ANG.
