Green was 19, and living in Madison County, Iowa, when he enlisted as a Private in Co. I of the 4th Iowa Cavalry on March 31, 1864. He later mustered out of the service with his company on Aug. 8, 1865.
Mr. Thomas Green of Carlyle died this morning at 5 o'clock. Funeral services will be held at the home tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock, with Rev. B. M. Powell of the Methodist church officiating.
Mr. Green was father of Fred Green of the post office force of Iola, and has himself postmaster at Carlyle for a number of years. As one of the oldest residents of Carlyle he knew and was known by almost everyone who had anything to do with Carlyle.
He leaves three sons, Fred of Iola, Will of north of Iola, and another son lives in Wyoming. For a number of months Mr. Green was in poor health, and was on the point of death last Christmas, but rallied, and has since been in fairly good health. His last illness came yesterday morning, with death coming this morning.
