"George ... was born on the family homestead, and like his father was a farmer. He, however, branched out in other directions, and at the time of the construction of the Pennsylvania Railroad he had the contract for the cutting of the Georgia cut. He became prominent in the community and served one or more terms in the state legislature" (Jordan, 1908, p. 354).
