William L. Chapin, 73, of 7874 State Line Road, Camden, died Sunday evening, Oct. 3, 2004, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford. Born Jan. 12, 1931, in Somerville, he was the son of William F. and Helen M. (Miller) Chapin. He had lived all his life in Preble County, where he had farmed. He graduated from Dixon High School in 1949, and had worked for Producers Livestock and Carmack Livestock for 15 years each. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in College Corner, Ohio, and the Eagles in Richmond, Ind. Mr. Chapin was an avid sports fan and played sports in his younger years. He married Mary Setser on June 24, 1950, at the Presbyterian Church manse in West College Corner.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; two sons and their spouses, William L. and Carole Chapin of Coal City, Mo., and Scott and Susan Chapin of Camden; a brother, Francis Chapin of Branson, Mo.; a sister, Betty Briggs of Dayton; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. (Ohio time) on Thursday, Oct. 7, at Showalter-Blackwell-Long Funeral Home, Baker Chapel, College Corner, Ohio, with the Rev. Jason Bantz officiating. Burial will follow in Somerville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. (Ohio time) at the funeral home.
