Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Nell Betterton, 86, of Buffalo and formerly of New Boston, Texas were held 2PM on Friday, July 8, 2011 at the Walters' Buffalo Funeral Home. Rev. Alan Grisham, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Buffalo officiated. Graveside services and interment were held 11AM Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Highland Cemetery near Deport, Texas.

Dorothy Betterton was born May 4, 1925 in Deport, Texas to Luther and Tennie Cheatham. She married Weldon Betterton in January 1946. They lived and raised their family in New Boston. She moved to Buffalo in 2004 after living over 50 years in New Boston where she was an active member of the First Baptist Church. At her death, she was a member of First Baptist in Buffalo. She passed away on July 6, 2011 in a Fairfield nursing home. One of her sons said, "Mother has gone home to be with Jesus and her family and friends that have gone before her; no more confusion and lack of mobility, tears and pain."

Mrs. Betterton was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Weldon C. Betterton; twin daughters, Linda Kay Betterton and Brenda Gail Betterton; great granddaughter, Kayla; a brother, Clarence Cheatham and a sister, Ruby Westbrook. She is survived by sons, Bill (Bonnie) Betterton of Yakima, WA, Rick (Laura) Betterton of Ville Platte, LA; daughter, Susan (David) Hawthorne of Buffalo, TX; sisters, Faye Riggs of Nashville, AR and Frances (Fred) Skidmore of Dallas, TX; sister-in-law, Neva (Robert) Newberry of Paris, TX; ten grandchildren, Pat (Julie) Betterton of Spokane, WA, Jason (Becky) Betterton of Yakima, WA, Melanie (Tim) Shelton of Houston, TX, Kyle Betterton of Houston, TX, Lacy Verrett of Lake Charles, LA, Ethan Verrett of Ville Platte, LA, Brianne Betterton of Ville Platte, LA, Kimberly Johnson of Buffalo, TX, Jared Hawthorne of Buffalo, TX and Keri Hawthorne of Buffalo, TX; eight great grandchildren, Carson, Haley, Hannah, Tyler, Brynne, Johnathan, Makenna and Triston and nieces, nephews and cousins.
