Alva Lee "Al" Williams
Birth: Feb. 8, 1916
Halifax County
North Carolina, USA
Death: Feb. 11, 1998
Lenoir County
North Carolina, USA

Son of Lonnie Lee and Etoie Williams. Devoted husband of Edna Raye Dixon Williams, and cherished father of Alva Ann Williams Coleman and John Ray Williams. Beloved Grandfather to Debora Lorraine Coleman Rose, John Walter "Buddy" Coleman, Leann Elizabeth Coleman Spencer, Tammy Tracy Williams Jock, and John Jay Williams. Great-Grandfather to Amber Raine Coleman, Steven Ryan Spencer, Jacob Jock, Dakota Ray Williams, and Dalton Lee Williams.

Al Williams was born in Enfield, NC, later moving to Oriental, NC where he met and married Edna Dixon. This union produced two children, Alva and Johnny. Mr. Williams was active in his church, teaching Sunday School for 40 years and had an undying faith in God. He was also very active in civic activities which included being a member of the Masonic Lodge, York Rite Bodies in New Bern, NC. He attained the rank of Third Degree Mason becoming the Grand Master of the Royal Select Masons of North Carolina.

Al (as he liked to be called), worked hard all of his life. His main career was in the U.S. Postal Service where he worked for 30 years. When he retired he picked up the hobby of counted cross-stitch, producing some beautiful pieces that were displayed with pride at many locations in New Bern. His favorite past time, however, was his family and enjoying the times when all of the children, grandchildren and great-grandhildren were together. He is sadly missed but most certainly not forgotten.

In a lonely cemetery, where gentle breezes blow, there is a precious one, I love & treasure so. I think of you in silence, and often call your name, but all that's left to answer, is a picture in a frame. How could I ever forget you, when everything I do, is something that reminds me, of the short years I had with you. If it's true that time heals a broken heart, as many people say, perhaps they never had a Granddad they loved so much, the pain never goes away.

Your Granddaughter,

Granddaddy, there are so many times when I wish we could just sit down and have one of our deep conversations. I always loved talking to you. I'll miss and love you forever, but I know one day we will see each other again and the love we will feel will be...(Read more)
