Mrs. Kathryn E. (Webster) Baker, 79, of 2221 Gablehammer Road, Westminster, MD, died at 1:05 P.M. Tuesday, March 16, 2004 in Carroll County Hospital Center in Westminster. She had been in failing health for the past several years and critically ill for the past week.

Born December 17, 1924 in South Mountain, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Jay and Marion (Matchner) Webster. She lived her early life in South Mountain.

Mrs. Baker graduated from Quincy High School with the class of 1942. While living with her husband in Akron, OH, she studied Bible and music. She also attended Washington Bible College in Washington, D.C.

She and her husband, Rev. Ernest H. Baker, were married on May 30, 1942 in Hagerstown, MD by Rev. Scott R. Wagner. They lived in South Mountain until her husband was discharged from the military and then moved to Waynesboro. Following their retirement, they lived in Shady Grove, PA from 1990 through 1998, at which time they moved to their daughter's home. Mrs. Baker entered Westminster Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in May 2002.

She and her husband owned and operated the Waynesboro Christian Book Store. She also worked as a teacher and director of Child Evangelism of Carroll County, MD. She owned and operated the Westminster Christian Book Store from 1971 to 1977. From 1983 through 1989, she worked with the Four State Christian Mission in Hanover, PA.

Mrs. Baker was a member of the Church of the Open Door in Westminster.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Cynthia L. Goodwin, Westminster; two sons, Dr. Ernest H. Baker, Jr., Blacksburg, VA and Timothy H. Baker, Chambersburg, PA; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Jones, Fayetteville, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Miriam Webster, and three brothers, Lawrence Webster, Ralph Webster, and Frank Webster.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 20, 2004 in the Church of the Open Door, 550 Baltimore Blvd., Westminster with Dr. Ernest H. Baker, Jr. and Rev. John Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain.
