Death: Jun. 10, 1942

Roy Gene is what he liked to be called but his real name was Roy Franklin Jr. He joined the Texas National Guard in 1940 and immediately went to Camp Bowie, in Brownwood Texas of November that year. He was due to get out in a year but it appeared that war was starting so they kept the men in the service past their time. Not too long after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor , Dec 7, 1941 and consequently the men were there for the duration. A few weeks later he was sent to Louisiana for manuvers and then on to Florida for further training. Then he was sent on to Massachusetts for shipment overseas. Gene was in North Africa where he was killed , June 10, 1943. He was buried in Oran , North Africa, until after the war and was then later brought home and reburied in Mount Olive Cemetery
