HIGHGATE CENTER -- John B. Callan, 88, a lifelong area resident, passed away on Tuesday evening, Dec. 7, 2004, at the Franklin County Rehab Center following a long illness. He was born in Fairfield on Nov. 3, 1916, the son of the late Thomas and Sarah (Paradee) Callan. He was married to the former Lois A. Smith, who survives him.
John was a longtime employee of the former Missisquoi Corporation in Sheldon where he was a pipefitter. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations. He was a member of Robert E. Glidden Post 758, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Green Mountain Post 1, American Legion.
Besides his wife of 58 years, Lois of Highgate, he is survived by two sons, David B. Callan and his wife, Elaine and Ray P. Callan all of Fairfield; two daughters, Linda L. Callan of Fairfield and Susan Lussier and her husband Danny of Enosburg Falls; a brother, Ray F. Callan and his wife, Gilberte of Fairfield; a sister, Beatrice Liberty and her husband, Leonard, of Windsor Locks, Conn.; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Marcheta Townsend officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will be in the family lot at Sheldon Village Cemetery.
