Charles Haines, born in the Senachwine township of Putnam County, was a resident of Chicago when he enlisted in the Union service in August 1862.
He mustered with Co. C, 113th, IL Vol Infantry on October 1, 1862.
After the capture of Fort Hindman, Arkansas Post on January 11, 1863, about the half the regiment, including Haines, returned North with Confederate prisoners.
The cirmstances of his passing in Cairo are presently unknown.
