Robert Alan "Bob or Moon" Claycombe was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 28, 1923 and died on April 24, 2012 at the age of 89. He was the son of Lloyd D. Claycombe and Jeannette Wuille Claycombe.
Bob attended public school in Indianapolis. He attended school 66, school 70 and graduated from Shortridge High School in 1940. He attended Butler University in 1940 and 1941, General Motors Institute from 1941 to 1943, and Butler University again in 1946 to 1947. He graduated from Indiana Law School, Indianapolis Division in 1950.
Bob was a member of the Lambda Chi Fraternity and Sigma Delta Chi Fraternity, of which he was president. Bob served in World War II. He was a B-24 pilot with the 66th Squadron of the 43rd Bomb Group in the Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Aviation Company of the Indiana National Guard from 1946 to 1962.
After returning from World War II, Bob met, courted and married his wife Sue Christina Hoover in 1947. They had 2 children, Nancy, who was Sue's daughter and who became Bob's daughter by love and adoption, and Bruce who was born in 1948. Sue and Bob were married 53 years until Sue's death in 2001.
Bob practiced law in Indianapolis for 55 years with the firm Claycombe and Claycombe and Kothe, Claylcombe, Kortepeter & McPherson. Prior to his retirement in January 2005, he was of counsel to the firm Kortepeter, McPherson, Hux, Freihofer & Minton. He was a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association, The Lawyers' Club of Indianapolis (past president), the American Bar Association, The Organization of Pilot Classes of 1944, The Order of Daedalians (a military pilots association), Lambda Chi Fraternity (where he served on the National Board of Directors and was general counsel for the fraternity for 35 years.) Sigma Delta Kappa (A legal fraternity). He was a founding member of Crooked Stick Golf Course and was an Eagle Scout. He was also a member of, and attorney for, the Showalter Selection Committee which provides research money to Indiana University School of Medicine, Purdue University and Methodist Hospital Research Foundation.
Bob was the widower of Sue Christena Claycombe. His father and mother predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his grandparents Victor and Roma Claycombe of Jasper, Indiana. Louis and Nettie Wuille of Oxford, Ohio.
He is survived by his children Nancy Chase and her husband Ben of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Bruce Claycombe and his wife Vicki of Nashville, Tennessee. Grandchildren: Christiena Tribolet Sleater (Jerry) and E. Shane Tribolet, Tandy Claycombe Harrison (Guy), Jennifer Claycombe Greenburg and True Christena Claycombe. In addition, He is survived by his brother John R. Claycombe and his sister Mary Alice Adney, and eight great-grandchildren. Last, but definitely not least, he is survived by his sweetheart Tudy Crum.
