John "Jack" Branstetter of Crawfordsville, passed away Saturday evening at Lane House Nursing Home. He was 81.

He was a graduate of Darlington High School, class of 1947. He worked at R. R. Donnelley for 42 years. He served 22 years in the National Guard, where he was battery commander for the Darlington Armory and retired as a Major.

Jack was a member of the Crawfordsville Country club for 40 years and was past Board President. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 72, the 40 and 8, Eagles, Elks and the Darlington United Methodist Chruch. He also enjoyed playing lots of golf.

Born September 8, 1929 in Darlington to Zoy and Edith Peterson Branstetter, he married Charlotte Eubank in 1952. She passed away in 1976. He married Betty Anderson June 25, 1982. She survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Tamara (Bryan) Branstetter Garner of Anderson, granddaughter, Kristin (Chris) Boots Banks of Mulberry, son-in-law, Robert Boots of Mulberry, step-children, Chuck (Jocelyn) Anderson, Peggy (Mike) Whitacre, Jack Anderson and Andra (Kevin) Storms, a brother, Richard Branstetter, sister, Joyce Lidikay, both of Crawfordsville, and sister, Joan Vermillion of Sarasota, nine step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Branstetter Boots, step-daughter, Jane Anderson Switzer, two brothers, Max F.and Marvin L. Branstetter, two sisters, Martha Peebles and Mary Hayes as well as three step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 PM Wednesday at Burkhart Funeral Home. Pastor Mike Whitacre will conduct the service assisted by Pastors Bryan and Maureen Langdoc.

Burial with military honors will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Darlington.

Visitation will be from 11 AM to 2 PM at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Major John "Jack" Branstetter, age 81, died December 18, 2010.

Major Branstetter enlisted in the Indiana Army National Guard in April 1948 and served without interruption until his retirement in August 1970. General Richard Chastain tells us "he spent almost all of his career with the 3rd Battalion, 139th Field Artillery with just a short time at Division Artillery Headquarters (DIVARTY). He retired after more than 22 years service.
