Joseph R. Briner 75 of Bluffton passed away at 3:45 a.m. Sunday at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
He was born on February 20, 1935 to Corvin O. & Oma M. ( Greenawalt) Briner in Sturgis, Michigan. On December 21, 1958 at Saint Marks Lutheran Church in Uniondale he married Janet A. (Allen) Briner. They have shared almost 52 years of marriage together.
Mr. Briner graduated from Rock Creek High School in 1953. He furthered his education at Purdue University graduating in 1957 with a degree in Agriculture Education and serving the ROTC program. He served his country for 6 years in the United States Air force. He retired in 1990 as the Department Commander of Operations of the Fort Wayne National Guard Air Base after 25 years. He served his country for over 32 years during his career in the Military. He was also member of the American Legion Post # 111 of Bluffton and Saint Mark's Lutheran Church in Uniondale.
Mr. Briner is survived by his wife Janet of Bluffton along with two daughters and a son; Susan E. (husband Michael) Bartlett of Fort Wayne, Sheryl E. (husband Jeffrey) Carnes of Evansville and Brian A. (wife Laura) Briner of Hortonville, Wisconsin, along with 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Other survivors include a sister Janice G. Head of Phoenix, Arizona and a brother Jerry F. Briner of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Colonel Joseph R. Briner, age 75, passed away December 5, 2010.
Colonel Briner served in the United States Air Force from 1958 - 1964. He joined the Indiana Air National Guard in 1965, and served as Department Commander of 122nd Fighter Wing at Baer Field before his retirement in 1990, with more than 32 years service. Briner was also a National Guard technician.
Friends are invited to visit with the Briner family from 2 to 8 on Friday, (December 10, 2010) at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. A memorial service will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday (December 11, 2010) at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Uniondale with Pastor Richard Vonesh officiating.
Burial will take place at a later time at Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton.
