"Robert A. Carrington, 68, of Avon, Indiana and formerly of Rockville, Indiana died at 12:33 am Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
He was a retired Master Sergeant with the Indiana National Guard with full time service for thirty-seven year serving from 1959-2002. He also served 10 years as a supervisor/manager for A. F. Dormeyer Industries in Rockville.
He was born March 15, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Roy A. Carrington and Dorothy Smith Carrington.
Survivors include his children, Paul (Sandy) Carrington of Bend, Oregon; Gail (Carlos) Ramirez-Icaza of Louisville, Kentucky; Ryan Carrington of Sullivan, Ilinois, Adam (Christina) Carrington of Rockville, Indiana; five grandchildren, Jerica and Felicity Carrington, Adam Carrington II, Zachary and Alexander Ramirez-Icaza; two great grandchildren, Conner and Tyler Bennett.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Christy Bennett in 2006.
He was a 1960 graduate of Rockville High School and a 1964 graduate of Purdue University. He was a member of Hendricks County Conservation Club, active in the Arthur Murray Dance Club where he participated in many competitions. He was also a Purdue Alumni Booster, active in photography and was an avid birdwatcher. In 2002 he was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Frank O'Bannon. He loved time with his family and watching his grandchildren grow.
Services will be 10:00 am Friday, July 30, in Gooch Funeral Home at 112 W. Howard St. in Rockville. Burial with military graveside honors will follow in Memory Garden Cemetery, Rockville. Visitation is from 4-8 pm Thursday at Gooch Funeral Home."

Staff Sergeant Carrington joined the Indiana Army National Guard March 18, 1965. He entered Active Guard Reserve status Feb. 16, 1982 and served until March 31, 2002. Sergeant Carrington had 37 years service to state and country.|
