Robert L. Calhan of New Ross died Tuesday. He was 82.
Mr. Calhan was retired from the Indiana Army National Guard as a Sergeant Major, after 40 years of service. He was a resident of New Ross, where he farmed and raised market lambs for many years. He was a member of St.Bernard's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Indiana Sheep Breeders Association, Montgomery County Sheep Association and former president of the National Tunis Sheep Association. He was a former director of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau. His other memberships included the Montgomery County Democratic Club, where he served as a precinct committeeman; Eagles; and American Legion. He also was a 4-H leader in Walnut Township for many years.
He was born Aug. 17, 1928, to John H. and Lula J. (Armstrong) Calhan.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Margaret; children, Catherine (Randy) Fischer of Brownsburg, Therese Calhan of Ladoga, Elizabeth (David) Flohr of Ladoga, John (Kelly) Calhan of Zionsville, Colleen Calhan of Chicago; and seven grandchildren.
A brother, Thomas A. Calhan, is deceased.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday in St.Bernard's Catholic Church, 1306 E. Main St. Friend may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday in the church.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

We are sorry to announce the death of SGM (Ret) Robert L. Calhan, age 82, who passed away on Tuesday, September 7. Services will be held in St Barnard's Catholic Church is 1306 E. Main St, Crawfordsville, Indiana, at 11 am. Thursday, September 9. Calling will be from 9 am. until services on Thursday. Hunt & Son Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
