SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN
Chauncey Coffman was the son of T. J. and Eustatia (Kerns) Coffman. He was born March 12, 1880 in Gallipolis, Ohio.
Enlisted April 21, 1898 in Springfield, Illinois. His rank of Private. He served in Troop "I" of 1st Illinois Cavalry. Discharged July 18, 1898 in Chickamongua, Georgia. His disability discharge was due to lung trouble caused by pneumonia. Pension granted on Certificate No. 1141245.
At the age of 53 years in 1933, Mr. Coffman applied for admission to the Washington Veterans' Home. He was 5 feet 8-1/2 inches tall and had a fair complexion. He was a resident of King County and had lived continuously in the state since 1908 except one year that he spent in Nebraska. He married on February 24, 1904 in St. Paul, Minnesota and had a daughter, Margarett Ann Edmonds. His occupation was that of Salesman. He had been a prior member of Battle Creek Sanitarium in Hot Spring, South Dakota.
Mr. Coffman was admitted to the Washington Veterans Home on April 12, 1936. He died on furlough from the Home on April 7, 1943 in Bremerton and is buried at the Veterans' Home Cemetery. His widow, Edith, died December 31 of the same year. [An obituary could not be located in the Bremerton Daily News Searchlight].
