SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN

James Milliroy Carson was born September 1, 1862 in Ironton, Ohio. He was the son of William Carson of Pennsylvania and Elizabeth Wooten of Ohio.

Source for middle name: His son Clarence LeRoy Carson's death certificate.

MILITARY RECORD:
Enlisted July 20, 1898 in St. Louis, Missouri; served in Company "I" of 6th Missouri Infantry; and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant on May 10, 1899 at Savannah, Georgia. He received a pension on Certificate No. 1,250,190.

Mr. Carson married six times. According to his application forms to obtain admission to various soldier homes later on in life his first marriage was on April 14, 1884 (possibly 1886) in Greenup, Kentucky. He did not list all his wives' names. From family oral history his first wife was Dora (Celia) Duncan of Carter Co, Kentucky (daughter of Lewis Duncan and Naomi Archey). Her death date and burial location are unknown. Hope to locate one day! His second marriage was to Mary Sarah Gaines (maiden name Dillion) on February 4, 1916 in Seattle, King County. His third marriage to Annie M. Wilkins was on October 31, 1920 in King County. His fourth marriage was to Martha (Blakelin) Robinson on March 26, 1927 in Tacoma, Pierce County. His fifth marriage to Amanda Jane Boyster was on February 8, 1930 at Orting, Pierce County. His last marriage was to Sarah Yake on August 2, 1941 in Retsil, Kitsap County. His son James U. Carson and wife Grace were witnesses. His wife Sarah was laid to rest next to him at the Washington Veterans Home Cemetery.

He had three children living in 1939 (from his first marriage) when he requested admittance to the Washington Veterans' Home in Retsil. They were James U. Carson, age 49 of Renton; LeRoy Carson, age 42 of Sand Point, Idaho; and Frank Carson, age 34 of Seattle. At the time he and his wife Amanda lived in Orting, Pierce County.

*** Research shows his children's full names were James Ulysses, Clarence LeRoy and Phillip Franklin Carson.

PLEASE NOTE: All marriage data was verified with marriage records at the Washington State Archive except his first marriage in Kentucky. His military records can be found online at the Washington State Archive as well. Some information regarding his marriage dates are inaccurate or incomplete on his application forms found there. Research on marriages were included for the sole purpose of placing them in relationship to the various James M. Carson papers. The history above is a combination of data from those forms and further research.
