SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN
Orin Coin was born February 19, 1873 in Boone, Iowa. His father was Thomas O. Coin, born in Indiana and his mother was Rebecca Johnson Coin, born in Ohio. He was five foot four and one half inches tall and had a fair complexion. His occupation was cook.
Enlisted as a Private on September 6, 1896 at Ft. Crook, Nebraska. Assigned to Company "G" of 22nd U.S. Infantry. Discharged September 9, 1899 at Manila, Philippine Islands with the rank of Corporal. A pension was awarded on Certificate No. 1,557,530.
Mr. Coin applied for admission to the Washington Veterans' Home in December 1931 at the age of 58 years. He was a resident of Spokane and a widower. He declared that he had married June 25, 1906 in Denver, Colorado and that she had died March 8, 1912. He had no children living.
He died at the Home Hospital on June 13, 1942. His funeral was held on June 15th in the Home Hall and he was buried in the cemetery. The funeral was in charge of his Spanish War comrades who gave the regular military service. The Veterans' Home sent his army discharge and his pension certificate to Mr. E. M. Hussong of Medford, Oregon as keepsakes of Mr. Coin's military service. Mr. Hussong was Mr. Coin's late sister's husband.
