SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN
John Cordell was born in North Carolina on February 22, 1877. He was the son of David and Elizabeth (Walton) Cordell. He stood six feet tall, had brown hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion.
Enlisted May 5, 1898 at Raleigh, North Carolina. Assigned to Company "D" of 1st North Carolina Infantry. Discharged as private on April 22, 1899 at Savannah, Georgia. Again enlisted on March 26, 1901 at Ashville, North Carolian. Assigned to Company "C" of 27th U.S. Infantry. Discharged as private on April 22, 1899. Pension on certificate No. 1235,922.
Mr. Cordell had lived continuously in the State since 1906. On June 28, 1908, he married Nina in Tacoma. She died on furlough on April 28, 1943 and was buried in the Home Cemetery. He was admitted to the Washington Veterans Home on October 17, 1932.
He was survived by a son, George Cordell, who lived in Puyallup in 1932.
Mr. Cordell died June 19, 1967 at the Home Hospital. He was buried in the Home Cemetery in Section 72, Lot 8. His wife is buried in Section 73, Lot 6.
