SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN

John William Daugherty was born September 25, 1876 in Sherburne, Kentucky. He was the son of James and Fenton (Emmons) Daugherty. He was five foot ten and one half inches tall and had a dark complexion.

MILITARY RECORD:
Enlisted January 19, 1900 at Lexington, Kentucky. Assigned to 2nd Regiment, U. S. Army Infantry. Discharged January 30, 1903 at Angel Island, California. Pension awarded on Certificate No. C 2 315 584.

Mr. Daugherty married Anna K. on June 12, 1920. They had no children living when he applied for admission to the Washington Veterans' Home in April 1958. He had been living in Edmonds, Washington since June 1, 1953.

He died at the age of 85 years at Washington Veterans Home. He is buried in the Home cemetery.

John W. Daugherty Passes at 85. A veteran of the Spanish-American war, John W. Daugherty, 85, died last night at Washington Veterans home at Retsil. He had been a member of the home since 1958, moving there from his home in Edmonds with his wife, Anna.
His death came three months after the death of his wife and just two days before his 86th birthday.
Mr. Daugherty, a native of Kentucky, was reared in Illinois and from there joined the army before the turn of the century. Following his discharge three years later he lived in various places until his marriage to Anna Hindalong in Nebraska in 1920. They made their home in Sioux City, Iowa, and in Denver, until coming to the state in 1953.
He was a member of the United Spanish War Veterans, First Baptist church in Edmonds and VFW in Alderwood Manor.
Surviving are a stepson, Earl Biegler of Seattle; a brother, Ed of Kentucky; a stepgrandson, and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at the home at 1:30 Thursday afternoon under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist funeral home.
