SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN
John Donnelly was the son of Charles and Mary Donnelly. He was born December 7, 1874 in Souix City, Iowa. He stood five foot seven inches tall and had a medium complexion. His occupation was painter. He was unmarried.
Enlisted April 30, 1898 at Rapid City, South Dakota. Assigned to Company "M" of 1st South Dakota Infantry. Mustered out as a Private on October 5, 1899. Pension awarded on Certificate No. 1,545,600.
On November 8, 1933, at the age of 59 years, Mr. Donnelly was admitted to the Washington Veterans' Home in Retsil.
Mr. Donnelly died age 85 on April 3, 1960 at the Veterans' Home. A sister, Mrs. Mary Keys of Culver City, California, was believed to have died prior to him. Services were held at the Catholic Church and he was buried in the Home Cemetery.
