SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN
Ernest E. Collins was the son of Samuel and Mary Ann (Adams) Collins. His father was born in Alton, Kentucky and his mother was born in Campbellsville, Kentucky. He was born April 15, 1880 in Lebanon, Kentucky. He stood five foot seven inches tall and had a fair complexion.
Enlisted September 30, 1899 at Louisville, Kentucky. Assigned to U. S. Army. Discharged May 5, 1901 at Cagayan, Philippines as a Private. Pension on Certificate No. C2-433-425.
He divorced Margaret Chase Collins on September 12, 1932. He had no dependent children in 1953 when he applied for admission to the Washington Veterans' Home in Retsil. His nearest relative was Mrs. O. J. Griswold of Santa Rosa, California, a sister.
Mr. Collins died at the age of 79 years on February 29, 1960 at the Veterans' Home. He was a member of Fred Needham VFW Post #2669 of Port Orchard.
