Harold E. Jordan, 87, of New Paris, Ohio, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2008, at Arbor Trace in Richmond, Ind.
Born July 23, 1921, in New Paris, he was the son of Paul and Grace (McWhinney) Jordan. He was a 1939 graduate of Jackson High School in Preble County, Ohio. He was active in the New Paris and Boston communities where he farmed with his father and two brothers for several years. They were well-known potato farmers and received the "Navy E" award for production during World War II.
Mr. Jordan later farmed with his sons, then retired to Naples, Fla. He served on the boards of Jackson Township School, Preble County Farm Bureau Co-op, and Ohio Corn Growers Association. He was a Sunday school superintendent at Concord Church and a member of Central United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Josephine (Weatherly) Jordan; four sons, Richard (Margaret) Jordan, Jon (Debbie) Jordan, Tom (Lisa) Jordan, all of New Paris, and Gene (Roxanne) Jordan of Florida; two daughters, Ann (Ray) Copeland of Texas and Amy (Dinal) Andreasen of Georgia; 15 grandchildren, Jill Eales, Judy Barnes and Jay Jordan, all of New Paris, Andy and Angie Jordan, both of Florida, Jon Jordan II of Germany, Matthew Jordan of Greenville, Tom Copeland of Colorado, Norma Salmon of Georgia, Gabriel, Justin, Tim, Rebecca, Elizabeth and William Jordan, all of New Paris; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, James Jordan of New Paris; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Philip G. Jordan; and one great-grandson, Nathan Klimek.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, Richmond, Ind. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris.
