Missing on reconnaissance flight aboard 5th Air Force B-24J Liberator #42-73449 on mission from Darwin, Australia to photograph shipping at Manokwari, Dutch West Indies (West Papua, Indonesia). Forty minutes after leaving the target area, planes broke formation to enter a weather front, at about 14:00 hours. Ship 449 was not seen or heard from again. A search box from Bentoni Bay in the west to Mois Waar to the east and southward on the aircraft's path back to Darwin was conducted. The missing craft was never located. It is unknown if it went down over land or into a bay.
He is also among the Tablets of the Missing at Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines.
