Nancy Arminta Lisle Constant
Learn about sponsoring this memorial...
Birth: 1820
Clark County
Kentucky, USA
Death: 1890
Worth County
Missouri, USA

Nancy Arminta Lisle married Jesse Roberts 26 May 1835, Clinton County ,Missouri.

Sometime between 1844-1850 Jesse died or left the family (*note birth of youngest child Merrell).

In the 1850 U.S. Federal census,Gentry County,Missouri she is listed as Arminta Roberts with the following Roberts children:
* Martha (11)
* Nancy (9)
* Samuel (7)
* Merrell (5), and her brother William Lisle (24) who is assisting her with the farm. She is living next door to her parents Lemuel and Lucinda (Vassar)Lisle. All of her children were born in Missouri.

Archibald Constant (67 yr b: NC) and Sarah Constant (69yr b:VA) are also living in Athens Twp, Gentry Co, Missouri in 1850.

1860 U.S. Federal Census,Gentry Co
Arminta CONSTANT is listed as widowed, with 3 teenage children now listed with the last name CONSTANT and a 6 year old CONSTANT:
(* the previous ROBERTS children)
* Ann (assumed as Martha 18)
* Nancy (17)
* Samuel (16) and
* William Constant, (6)who has real estate valued at $500,
which is more than his mother, Arminta CONSTANT.
* Merrel ROBERTS, 5 year old son of Arminta on the 1850
census is not listed on the 1860 census with Arminta.
Probable death before 1860.

The marriage of Nancy and Archibald Constant is mentioned in the book "Record Book for the Christian Church at the Three Forks of the Grand River (Old Brick Church), Athens Township, Gentry County, Missouri (1843-1955)through a name change for "Nancy Lisle Minty Roberts, now Constant".

The theory is that between 1850 and 1852, Sarah CONSTANT, wife of Archibald CONSTANT listed in the 1850 census died and Archibald married a widowed neighbor, Arminta LISLE ROBERTS, taking in her children also. They had a son, William Archibald 16 Jul 1853 and Archibald died before the 1860 census. It is assumed that he must have died a few years before 1860 if there was probate to be handled because the 6 year old William has property value in 1860 census.

Archibald Constant is presumed buried in the Hoblet cemetery along with Nancy but the headstone is missing. There is no record of his first wife Sarah's burial location.

The Hoblet cemetery has many headstones damaged and lost.

Unfortunately as a side note:
Archibald Edmondson Constant (Find A Grave Memorial# 23824376) linked to Nancy and Archibald Constant's son, William Archibald Constant's memorial IS NOT the Archibald (b:1783) that was Nancy's second husband.Archibald Edmondson Constant was born in 1801 and is many years younger than the Archibald who married Nancy and fathered William Archibald Constant. Archibald Edmondson Constant was born in a different state, and is listed on the same 1850 census in Illinois with wife Mariah and children. Also Archibald Edmondson Constant is in the 1860 and 1870 census with Mariah and his children in Illinois. Archibald Edmondson's family is well documented and there is not a separation or divorce for him. He is buried in Illinois.

Currently the link for the incorrect father on William Archibald Constant's memorial cannot be corrected with the current Find A Grave process. Will gladly share details to correct the mistaken link of Archibald Edmondson Constant to this family. Please contact lsgrandma1-ancestry@yahoo.com.
