2nd h/o Virgie Minnie Pennington Nelson
Charlie married my great-grandmother before I was born, and he was the only great-grandpa I ever knew. He never had any children or grandchildren of his own, but he loved us as if we were his own.
He was patient, kind, soft-spoken and loving. He worked at a music store (Jenkins, I believe) in Kansas City, but I don't remember knowing what exactly he did for them. We never had musical instruments in our family, so I doubt he was a demonstrator. More the bookkeeping type, I think.
I always wondered how he could live with Granny and still be so sweet and pleasant, but he must have seen through her grumpy exterior and really loved her.
Charlie taught us kids how to play checkers, and helped me catch my first fish.
Charlie was a good man, a very good man.
